Due to structural & safety concerns, as well as required repairs, the bike trail bridge that connects the path on the north side of the PCHS soccer fields to the path heading southeast to Tazewell and Allentown roads is closed until further notice.

 

Bike Trail Bridge Closure Update #3 (8/21/26)

We know how eager our community is to see this bridge reopened—it has been closed for 11 months now, and we share that exact same urgency. While we still do not have a firm completion date, we have a major funding update to share:

• $10,000 Grant Awarded: We applied for and received a $10,000 grant from Ameren to purchase lumber and materials for the project. A formal check presentation is planned for the Pekin Park Foundation meeting in October.
• In-House Cost Savings: To stretch our lean budget, our park maintenance staff will perform all repairs in-house.
• Workforce & Operations Schedule: Our crew maintains all 17 parks across the district. Prior to fall construction, maintenance staff is heavily dedicated to the upcoming Marigold Festival, followed by facility and water feature winterization in October, and Winter Wonderland preparations shortly thereafter. 
• Timeline Expectations: We plan to begin repairs as soon as scheduling permits following the receipt of grant funds. Our goal remains to reopen the bridge within this fiscal year, though we are currently unable to guarantee an exact date.

The demolition phase of the repair has begun. Still no ETA for project completion, but we wanted to pass along a progress update.

 

Bike Trail Bridge Closure Update #1 (5/22/26)

The safety issue with the initial temporary closure on October 2nd revealed deeper structural concerns, which we have been assessing to determine the best course of action. We have developed a plan to address these concerns and will begin repairs in-house sometime this fiscal year.
